BY OUR CORRESPONDENT – The Plateau State Government has declared an immediate dusk-to-dawn curfew across the Barkin Ladi, Bokkos, and Mangu Local Government Areas following a deadly wave of coordinated violence across the three LGAs of the State.
The government’s sweeping security directive comes in the wake of renewed and escalating assaults that left over 20 people dead within a 48-hour window.
Announcing the curfew on Monday, the State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Ramnap, said the decision takes immediate effect, adding that henceforth, movement would be restricted between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m in the affected areas until further notice.
Ramnap, who stated that the development was aimed at maintaining public order and preventing a breakdown of law and order, said, “The Plateau State Government has declared an immediate, dusk-to-dawn curfew across Barkin Ladi, Bokkos and Mangu Local Government Areas to maintain public order and curb emerging security threats in the region.
“Effective today, Monday, September 21, 2026, the restriction of movement is between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM until further notice. The ‘Time is Now’ Administration led by His Excellency, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, Esq, has taken the measure to allow law enforcement agencies to stabilize the area, protect lives, and prevent any breakdown of law and order within local communities.
“Therefore, all residents of affected Local Government Areas are expected to fully comply with the government’s directive for their own safety. Citizens are advised to plan their daily commercial, agricultural, and personal activities strictly around the restriction hours to avoid unnecessary hardship or friction during the quiet hours.
“So far, security operatives have been directed to strictly enforce the curfew and the ban on use of motorcycles with immediate effect throughout the affected jurisdiction while reassuring law-abiding citizens that security personnel will operate with professionalism.”
According to local security sources, the brutal nighttime raids, which swept through vulnerable communities across Mangu, Barkin Ladi, Bokkos, and Riyom local council areas, caught many vulnerable groups, including defenseless women and children, unaware and killed during the attacks.
The sources disclosed that beyond the tragic loss of human life, the rampaging gunmen left a trail of heavy widespread material destruction and displacement of many residents.
Also, Forefront News reliably gathered that numerous residential buildings and properties were torched by the attackers, plunging surviving villagers into grief and displacing families who fled into nearby bushes and safer towns for refuge.
State authorities maintain that the strict movement restrictions are necessary to restore public order and prevent further bloodshed while security forces comb the troubled zones.
