Police Arraigns Sowore, 4 Others In Abuja For Alleged Public Disturbance

BY VICTOR BUORO, ABUJA – Controversial politician and publisher of online platform, Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore has been arraigned with four others before a Magistrate’s Court in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja by the Nigeria Police.

The five individuals were arraigned on a three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, unlawful assembly and public disturbance.

According to the prosecution, however, alleged that the defendants were arrested on New Year eve with placards calling for a violent revolution against President Muhammadu Buhari.

All the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.

The Special Weapons Tactical Team of Nigeria Police in Abuja had on the New Year Eve rounded up Sowore, Juwon Sanyaolu, Damilare Adenola, Peter and Kimrere over their alleged participation in an illegal protest march.

They were whisked away at Gudu district junction in Abuja by the police team mobilised to stop the protesters.

Those arrested were thereafter detained at the Abattoir police station in Guzape district, Abuja, the nation’s capital.
