Police Arrest Man United Star, Mason Greenwood Over Rape Allegations, Assault
- Old Trafford suspends player indefinitely
Greater Manchester Police on Sunday arrested Manchester United teenage sensation, Mason Greenwood over allegations of rape and assault.
This is as the Old Trafford landlords announced that the forward has been placed on an indefinite suspension until things are properly sorted out.
Greenwood’s alleged girlfriend shared a voice recording, photos of her bloodied nose and bruised body accusing him of forcing himself on her.
The outcome was an earlier statement by Manchester United saying, “We are aware of images and allegations circulating on social media.
“We will not make any further comment until the facts have been established. Manchester United does not condone violence of any kind.”
Further demonstrating their strong opposition to violence, the club released another statement saying the player will no longer train with the team nor feature in matches until further notice.
The statement said; “Mason Greenwood will not return to training or play matches until further notice.”
In the same vein, Sportswear giants Nike, sponsors of the player, also issued a statement to The Athletic, saying; “We are deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations and will continue to closely monitor the situation.”
Greenwood, 20 from Bradford, made his debut in 2019 and has since amassed 129 appearances for the club.
This latest incident is not the first time Greenwood has found himself caught in controversy.
On his first call-up to the Three Lions as a national squad member, the striker sneaked in two Icelandic models in the team hotel along with Phil Foden despite strict instructions to quarantine.
In the ensuing adverse media reports, the England National team manager, Gareth Southgate ended up sending home the United player, along with Foden.
Another controversy has been on recent reports of the clash and altercations with teammate, Cristiano Ronaldo over his reluctance to pass the ball during one of United’s latest outing in the Premiership.
