The Kano Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a popular comedy skit maker, Murja Kunya, at Tahir Guest Palace Hotel in Kano State on allegations of public disturbance.

The Kano-based 24-year-old lady was picked up by operatives of the Command while trying to book rooms in the Hotel located at No 4 Ibrahim Natsugune Road in Kano Metropolis.

Reports said Kunya was in the process of arranging for guests expected to storm the ancient commercial city for her much-publicized birthday celebration.

Police insiders indicated that the development may not be unconnected to an episode in September 2022 where a Sharia court wrote to the Kano State Commissioner of Police demanding the arrest and investigation of Miss Kunya, alongside other TikTokers, for “corrupting the morals of the society.”

Among the TikTokers included in the letter are Mr 442, Safara’u, Dan Maraya, Amude Booth, Kawu Dan Sarki, Ado Gwanja, Ummi Shakira, Samha Inuwa, and Babiana.

Forefront News gathered that Murja’s travail is traceable to last September’s episode where the Committee of Kano Islamic clerics approached the Sharia Court complaining about her activities and that of the above-listed colleagues currently on the police watchlist

Arising from the development, the Court stated thus in its letter to the Police authorities; “Sequel to the complaint lodged by Muhd Ali Hamza Esq, Abba Mahmud, Esq, Sunusi I. Umar Esq, Abba, A.T Bebeji Esq, B. I Usman Esq, Muhd Nasir Esq, L.T Dayi Esq, G.A Badawi & Badamasi Suleiman Gandu Esq, I am directed by the presiding Upper Sharia Court Judge, Bichi Division Kano to write and kindly request you to conduct investigation against the above-mentioned suspects for proper action.”

Recalled that a Kano Senior Magistrate’s Court had in November 2022 sentenced two young men, Mubarak Isa and Nazifi Bala, to 20 strokes of the cane and 30 days of community service for making a TikTok comedy skit on Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State.

A comedy skit is a short performance in which the actors, humorous or satirical characters, make fun of people, events, and types of literature by imitating them with gibes and taunts
