Police Deploy 491 Personnel FOR Nasarawa Assembly Bye-election
BY AHMED TUKUR, LAFIA – The Nasarawa State Police Command has warned that it will deal ruthlessly with anyone found to formenting trouble during the State Assembly bye-election slated for Saturday, August 8, 2020.
The warning was contained in a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Nansel Ramhan, in which he also said that the command will deploy 491 personnel for the election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed August 8, 2020 for the bye-election following the death of Hon. Adamu Suleiman, who died on May 30, 2020 as a result of COVID-19 pandemic.
Ramhan said the police will be supported by personnel from Nigeria Army, Department of State Service, Federal Road Safety Corps and Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps.
He said; “In view of the above, we want to assure the law abiding citizens in the State and particularly Nasarawa Local Government Area that the Police Command is ever ready to provide the much needed Security for the conduct of the bye-election.
The Police spokesman said that the personnel of the Force have been thoroughly lectured to be civil in the discharge of their duties and respect the fundamental human right of the citizenry.
Ramhan said; “Consequently, we want to warn all those who may want to foment trouble during this election to steer clear or risk being arrested and decisively dealt with according to the provisions of the Law”.
He added that the Police Command in conjunction with other Security agencies have put in place a comprehensive and solid security deployment that will frustrate any criminal agenda.
