Police Nab Two Suspects For Allegedly Slitting Neighbour’s Throat

  • Dismiss two officers in Lagos for robbery, illegal duty

The Police Command in Kwara State has arrested two suspects identified as Abdullateef Yakubu and Yakubu Olanrewaju of Shao Garage area, Ilorin, the state capital, for allegedly slitting the throat of their neighbour over a disagreement.

Police reports indicated that the incident occurred around midnight on Monday, January 1, 2024, at Shao Garage area of Ilorin, in Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara State.

An insider told reporters that a brother of the victim, AbdulRazaq Babatunde, who was attracted to the incident scene by the shout of a resident, rushed out at that unholy hour only to find his younger brother, Abubakar Babatunde, in the pool of his blood, bleeding profusing from his slit throat.

According to the insider; “He (AbdulRazaq) was subsequently rushed to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital for medical attention”.

Confirming the incident, the Command’s Public Relations Officer in the state, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said it was officially reported and the two suspects were arrested, adding that; “The needful will be done as soon as we have concluded our findings”.

Police Dismiss Two Officer For Robbery, Illegal Duty
In another development, Two Police Inspectors, Sunday Adetoye and Ogunleye Stephen, attached to Zone 2 Command Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos, have been dismissed for offences, which the zone described as armed robbery, official corruption, and illegal duty.

Their dismissal was ordered by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 2, Mohammed Ali, at the end of an Orderly Room trial.

Adetoye and Stephen

Inspector Adetoye with Force number 279495 and Inspector Stephen with Force number 223521, alongside two members of a Vigilante Group, identified as Semiu Afisu and Abidoye Femi, a driver identified as Charles John, reportedly stormed a residence in the Obada-Oko community in Ogun State, at about 10 pm, on November 23, 2023.

Armed with two Submachine (SMG) rifles and live ammunition, the group searched the apartment belonging to one Taiwo Monsuru and Akintola Sunday, without a warrant and made away with five iPhones, one Samsung smartphone, one Tecno smartphone, and two laptops among other unspecified items

The Zonal Public Relations Officer, SP Umma Ayuba, who explained how the officers were arrested, said; “Police officers attached to Ifo Division mounted a roadblock after other residents of the apartment informed them of the incident, with the description of the vehicle. That led to the apprehension of the occupants of the vehicle, without ASP Ajayi Victor who led the illegal operation. He is currently at large.

“The AIG has directed that the dismissed officers be charged to court alongside the civilians involved, while he urges all officers and men of the force to remain professional in the discharge of their duties by the law, as anyone found wanting will be accountable for his or her action or inaction.”
