Police Officer Arrested While Allegedly Transporting Ammunition From Abuja
Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), in collaboration with workers at the Keffi Motor Park Union, on Saturday arrested a serving police Inspector after a parcel suspected to contain live ammunition was discovered at the Nyanya Motor Park, Abuja.
Accordingly, the suspect, identified as Inspector Kasimu Usman, attached to the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit of the FCT Command, was immediately apprehended.
This was disclosed by Zagazola Makama, a crime expert, who quoted sources as saying that at about 1515 hours on Saturday, police operatives, in collaboration with the Keffi Motor Park Union, who became suspicious of the parcel brought to the park for transportation to Lafia, Nasarawa State, swung into action.
It was gathered that upon inspection, the parcel was found to contain an AK-47 magazine with 30 rounds of live ammunition.
During interrogation, Inspector Usman admitted that the magazine and ammunition were intended for delivery to another police officer, Inspector Haruna Mohammed, who is stationed with the 58 Police Mobile Force (PMF) in Nasarawa State.
Sources further disclosed that the suspect, Inspector Usman is presently in protective custody where he is undergoing further interrogation as investigations into the matter are still ongoing.
