In a bid to enforce the ban announced by the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Police on Thursday had to contain a clash with the commercial motorcyclists in the Ojo area of Lagos State. .
According to reports, the encounter saw many people injured but no fatality was recorded.
It was learnt that the commercial motorcyclists, popularly called ‘Okada Riders’ had move to resist police enforcement of the ban on their operations by the Lagos State government.
The reports said the police operatives from the Onireke police station, Ojo, had impounded some motorcycles early in the day and took them to their station.
However, angry at the Police action, the motorcyclists reportedly mobilized themselves and invaded the police station with stones and other dangerous weapons in an attempt to release the impounded motorcycles.
An eyewitness account said to ward off the attack on their station, Policemen in the area shot sporadically into the air to disperse the irate motorcyclists.
