Police Recover Over N129BN Counterfeit Currencies, Arrest 3 Gunrunners, Rescued Victims
The Nigeria Police Force, Kano command has successfully recovered N129,542,823,000 in counterfeit currencies as well as arrest three suspects in connection with the crime.
A breakdown of the recovered counterfeit currencies showed that 3,366,000 were US Dollars, 51,970 in CFA franc, and 1,443,000 in counterfeit Naira.
A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said that the momentous achievement was recorded on Sunday, December 8, 2024, at Gwale, Kano State, where police operatives acting on credible intelligence accosted one Nura Ibrahim and upon a conducted search, discovered N392,000 counterfeit notes, USD7800 counterfeit notes and 5 different ATM cards.
Adejobi said that further investigation led to the arrest of his accomplices, Muhammed Muntari and Usman Abdullahi as well as the recovery of the other counterfeit currencies.
In another development, the Nigeria Police said that following its intensified efforts against gunrunning and the proliferation of arms in the country, its operatives on December 9, 2024, arrested three suspected gunrunners identified as Buhari Suleiman, Jamil Yakubu, and Aliyu Abdullahi, along the Kaduna-Kano expressway, Kaduna State. A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said that the suspects were apprehended after the police operatives noticed their suspicious activities and approached them to question them. The statement further said that subsequent search was conducted, which led to the recovery of 216 rounds of 9mm live ammunition and 1 round of Ak-47 ammunition.
Adejobi further said that the police in Kebbi State on December 8, 2024, rescued 36 victims of kidnapping along Mairairai/Bena Road in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area who were returning from their respective farms.
The spokesman of the police said that as a follow-up to the rescue, police operatives have visited the community to engage its members, debrief the rescued victims, and assure the people of its continuous readiness to ensure their safety and security.
