Police Service Commission Suspends DCP Abba Kyari
BY VICTOR BUORO, ABUJA – The Police Service Commission (PSC) on Sunday wielded the big stick against DCP Abba Kyari as it slammed him with suspension.
The suspension followed the recommendation by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba to the Commission on Saturday.
The PSC said that the suspension of DCP Kyari as a result of his indictment by the Federal Investigation Bureau (FBI) as a result of a US court’s trial of internet fraud star, Ramon Abbas popularly known as Hushpuppi.
The suspension of Kyari was contained in the commission’s letter with reference number PSC/POL/D/153/vol/V/138 addressed to the Inspector General of Police dated Sunday, August 1, 2021 and signed by Justice Clara Ogunbiyi, who signed on behalf of the Commission’s Chairman, IGP Musiliu Smith (rtd), who is currently on leave.
The PSC letter states that DCP Abba Kyari’s suspension took effect from Saturday, July 31, 2021 and would subsist pending the outcome of the investigation in respect of his indictment by the Federal Bureau of Investigation of the United States.
The PSC also requested the Inspector General of Police to furnish it with relevant information on further development on the matter for necessary action.
DCP Kyari was until his suspension, the head of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Nigeria Police Force.
