The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Bwari, CSP Babayola Muhammad, who confirmed the incident, did not give details on action(s) being taken by the Police.

But Police insiders hinted that operatives are already working and looking for evidence to crack the murder case that has left many Bwari residents distressed given the status of Bala popularly called “Comrade” by both colleagues and admirers.

Reports indicated that Bala was killed by yet-to-be-identified assailants on Friday night inside the Center, located in Kuchiko, a community in Bwari Area Council of Abuja.

Competent sources said the deceased’s lifeless body was found along with his wheelchair, adding that a wood believed to have been used on his head was found at the spot while his two mobile phones were missing.

One of the sources said; “No one from the deceased’s house was aware of the incident, perhaps due to the sound of the power generator, until a deaf female that usually assists the family as a maid raised an alarm on her way back to the hostel”.

Established by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), the Centre serves as a hub for skill acquisition and rehabilitation programmes meant to empower beggars and individuals apprehended for public nuisance in the FCT.

Also home to physically-challenged persons and ex-sex workers who are taught different vocational skills, the Centre is considered a beacon of hope for individuals facing socio-economic and physical challenges and these are designed to equip them with practical skills to effectively reintegrate into society and become self-reliant.

Though the circumstances surrounding his death have not yet been confirmed by authorities, local sources suggest foul play may have been involved with the security agencies launching an investigation into the incident.

It was reliably gathered that the probe is meant to identify and apprehend the culprits behind the heinous act, even as  the authorities pleaded that members of the public with useful information should contact the security agencies to aid the investigation.

The Bala’s tragic death has thrown the community and the ARC staff into mourning with many people describing him as a dedicated leader, quite passionate about the Center’s mission of providing support and skills training to vulnerable individuals.

Expressing their grief over the unfortunate incident, some of Bala’s colleagues and beneficiaries of the Centre’s programmes said his contributions were invaluable.

Preferring anonymity, a staff of the Center said; “Comrade Musa was a pillar of this community. He was committed to helping people change their lives for the better. It’s heartbreaking to think that someone could do this to such a good man.”

Many residents around the vicinity described him as playing a key role in meeting the Centre’s objectives, noting that he was always ever-ready to assist those in need.

They expressed worries that his death has raised serious issues about the security and safety of public servants working in rehabilitation facilities and similar institutions across the FCT.
