Political Hoodlums Disrupt Enugu Rerun Election, Attack Voters
Sponsored political hoodlums on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, disrupted the rerun election in Enugu South 1 State Constituency and destroyed the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC’s election materials.
The rerun election which was ordered by the Court, witnessed spirited attempts by the hoodlums to disrupt and stop the process from taking place by preventing electorate from casting their vote for their preferred candidate.
A statement by the officials of the INEC, said its personnel were eventually evacuated with assistance of security agencies.
INEC had on February 3, 2024, cancelled the earlier rerun elections held at Enugu South 1 State Constituency over similar incidence of thuggery and falsification of results.
The elections were suspended in all eight polling units as a result of the lack of the availability of original results sheets for inspection by voters before the commencement of the polls.
