Polls: Buhari Charges Nigerians On Anti-Corruption War
- Insists on punishment for looters
- Kwara elders, Gambari endorse Buhari
BY EDMOND ODOK, ILORIN – President Muhammadu Buhari says Nigerians must use their votes to renew support for the anti-corruption war so that looters of the nation’s resources are brought to justice.
He said his administration is seeking the continuous support of the citizens to smoke out all those that abuse public offices and squander our commonwealth for their personal selfish gains.
Speaking at his ‘Next Level’ presidential campaign in Ilorin, Kwara State on Monday, President Buhari told the party’s teeming supporters that no amount of blackmail by the opposition will distract the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration from retrieving all looted funds and channeling them into infrastructure development in the country.
According to him, “I will continue to remind you of where the country was when we came in, where we are now, what we have done and where we are going. I assure you of my undertaking in 2015, fight against corruption, provide security and economic development.”
He said the government has been focused on the anti-corruption fight and would not relent in its efforts to ensure that looters are made to pay for their crimes.
President Buhari said government has recorded appreciable strides in making Nigeria self-sufficient in food production, explaining that his administration has made fertilizer accessible and available at highly reduced prices to famers.
On the security, the President told the cheering crowd that the administration continues to record successes in degrading the insurgency and tackling emerging security challenges across the country.
He thanked the Kwara people for their support and massive turn-out at the rally despite the scorching heat.
In his speech at the rally, APC National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, described the large turn-out of supporters as indicating Senate President Bukola Saraki has lost his strong grips of Kwara state.
Chanting the slogan, ‘Enough is Enough’, Comrade Oshiomhole, who accused PDP of terrorising the Kwara people, alleged that the opposition party is daily strategizing on rigging the forthcoming elections.
“We will not be blackmailed. We will vote out PDP in Kwara with Permanent Voter Cards (PVC)”, he boasted, assuring the people that by next week they all would be singing songs of freedom being delivered from the stranglehold of selfish politicians.
He regretted that the Kwara people, have over the years, been reduced to mere observers in political and economic activities, but assured that; “The days of oppression are over.”
The APC Chairman also promised that the incoming administration in the state would adopt a governance style, where infrastructure would be provided while salaries and pension are paid promptly.
He chided the PDP over its desire to make Nigeria a dumping ground even as its flag-bearer, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar also insist on selling the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and enriching his friends if elected as president.
Comrade Oshiomhole said it was important to remind the international community that Nigeria was not a colony, adding; “We promote democracy through ‘one man one vote’ and that APC will celebrate victory by next week”
Kwara Elders Endorse Buhari
With just five days to the general elections, 25 elders in Kwara State, led by Dr Hezekiah Oyedepo, have thrown their weight behind the candidacy of President Buhari
They also resolved to vote for party’s gubernatorial candidate in the state, Alhaji AbdulRahman AdulRazaq on March 2, 2019 governorship and State Assembly elections.
The elders, including Chief Cornelius Adebayo, Brigadier Gen Saliu Bello (rtd), Prof. Ibrahim Gambari and Engr Simeon Daramola, made their position known in a press statement made available to journalists in Ilorin on Sunday..
According to them, Kwara has benefited immensely from the Buhari administration and the people were fully supportive of government’s agenda in tackling corruption, conspiracy against the poor and building an economically-viable country for the future.
“We hereby declare our support for the second term bid of President Muhammadu Buhari because we believe he has done well within the socio-economic and political realities of the country and the glaring resistance to positive change by some reactionary elements.
“We distance ourselves and our people from the greed-driven diatribes and frustrations of a certain political dynasty in Kwara State against the president” they said.
The statement read by Oyedepo further said; “In that light, we throw our weight behind the president’s plan to evolve a new political culture where nobody is seen to be above the law or is allowed to continue to trade with public funds as they recently exposed themselves to be doing.”
