The Presidency on Thursday, July 3, 2025, described the coalition of opposition political parties on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a conclave of “internally displaced politicians” with no common objective.

Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, who gave the description when he featured    on Channels Television programme; ‘Sunrise’, also said that the coalition is a “dead on arrival party.”

Bwala, a former aide to Atiku, who spoke on the unveiling of the ADC’s new leadership in Abuja, express his disdain for the coalition, saying that it is an association of wild goose chasers.

While Bwala did not name specific individuals, his comments appeared to target the architects and promoters of the ADC, a platform touted as a broad coalition of opposition politicians aiming to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

The ADC boasts of an impressive lineup of members, that include former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Senate President David Mark, former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi and former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

Bwala, who was a critic of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu before his appointment as Special Adviser in 2024, said that the coalition were only interested in ceasing power with no clear objectives or outlined programme for the nation.

Also speaking on the coalition, Festus Keyamo, SAN, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, said the coalition would only strengthen the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Keyamo specifically said that the defection to the ADC signalled a win for the APC, adding that the movement has effectively weakened the opposition, particularly the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Keyamo who took to his X handle, wrote; “What happened earlier today with the movement of the so-called ‘coalition’ into the ADC is the greatest factor that has strengthened the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.”
