Presidency To Peter Obi – Stop Acting Like A Coward, Lead Protest
The presidency on Monday, July 29, 2024 challenged the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr Peter Obi to stop acting like a coward and lead the planned nationwide protest against hardship and hunger.
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Information and Strategy, who stated the position of the presidency on X handle, said Peter Obi should take a more active role in the planned protest against hardship.
Onanuga’s statement followed Peter Obi’s endorsement of the planned nationwide protest in which he said that the protest was as a result of widespread hunger and hopelessness among the youth.
Onanuga, who wrote on his verified X handle, urged Peter Obi stop remaining behind the scenes but should come out to lead the protest openly like some leaders that included President Tinubu and former President Buhari did.
The presidential aide noted that true leadership involved being at the forefront and helping to manage any potential excesses during the protest.
In the words of Onanuga; “Now that Peter Obi has come out to endorse the planned protest by his supporters, he should do what President Tinubu and former President Buhari did in the past, by coming out openly to lead the protesters.
“That is what leadership is about. Not playing the master puppeteer behind the scene. He should be in the forefront of the protest and help in curbing their possible excesses,” he said.
