The impressive 2-0 victory of Nigeria’s Super Eagles over the Iceland national team in the ongoing FIFA World Cup has continue to generate accolades for the team with President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, and Senate President, Bukola Saraki among other leaders urging the boys to maintain their winning tempo in subsequent matches.

The Eagles, who lost their opening match 0-2 to Croatia on Saturday, June 18, will now take on Argentina in their final Group D outing slated for Saint Petersburg Stadium on Tuesday, June 26.

President Buhari, while congratulating the Super Eagles on their 2-0 victory over Iceland, said “with determination, nothing is impossible”.

According to his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, President Buhari is particularly delighted at the confidence, discipline, team-work and indomitable spirit displayed by the players throughout the match.

He therefore urged the players to believe in themselves and give their best in the next match against embattled South American opponents.

Also, Vice President Osinbajo and Senate President Bukola Saraki were upbeat joining Nigerians to congratulate the Eagles on their first victory at this year’s FIFA World Cup tournament.

Professor Osinbajo, in a tweet by his spokesperson, Mr.Laolu Akande, verified account @akandeoj, said: Congrats Nigeria!

Akande said the Vice President found time earlier today, while in transit between events in Lagos, to catch up on the Nigeria-Iceland match. Hope restored. Up Nigeria!

Saraki, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, are among other Nigerians that commended the Super Eagles.

Ahmed Musa once again proved that talents abound in all parts of Nigeria and that no part of Nigeria will lose out if we restructure and replace ethnicity with merit. If not for this Northerner, Nigeria would have had little hope in this #RussiaWorldCup2018. All Nigerians matter

‘God Bless Super Eagles’:

Nigeria’s 2-0 victory in the Friday evening tie that saw the Icelanders missing a second half penalty, has now presented the Super Eagles with a win or mar confrontation against the Lionel Messi-led Argentines.

Leicester City forward, Ahmed Musa, who was on season-loan to CSKA Moscow struck twice in the second half of the game to become the first Nigerian player to score at two World Cups. With the win automatically igniting Nigeria’ hope of securing a place in the last 16 stage, it is left for the Eagles to do the job against Argentina.

Nigeria had lost their opening match to Croatia 2-0 while Argentina drew one-all with Iceland. Though a draw would be enough to eliminate Argentina, Nigeria’s fate will still hand on the outcome of the match between group Leaders, Croatia and Iceland – with agency report
