President Buhari Is Under A Trance – Prof Soyinka

BY VICTOR BUORO, ABUJA – Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka on Tuesday did an appraisal of the present administration and passed a damning verdict on President Muhammadu Buhari, whom he said is under a trance.

Soyinka stressed that the sooner President Buhari gets out of the trance, the better for him and the country.

Soyinka, who spoke at a media briefing, expressed frustration over what he described as the ‘unforced errors’ of the Buhari administration.

The erudite global scholar cited the recall of the Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Professor Usman Yusuf, after his suspension for alleged graft by the Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole, by President Buhari, as a recent example of the unforced errors that has characterised the APC-led government.

While responding to a question on what he would tell Buhari if he meets him, Soyinka said, “I would say: Mr President, I think you are under a trance.”

Soyinka also spoke on the swelling agitation across the country, following attacks on farmers by herdsmen, saying; “the sooner he gets out of it the better. So many unforced errors are going on.”

When asked what kind of trance Buhari was in, Soyinka responded saying; “I don’t know. So many unforced errors. Take for instance, the suspended Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme, Usman Yusuf, reinstated by the President. “What is that about? What is going on?”
