Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, declared that the people that constitute President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led government lack credibility, and not positioned to offer anything meaningful to the nation.
The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), also said that the government need to explain to Nigerians the rationale behind their economic decisions.
Sanusi, who stated these at the 21st anniversary of the Gani Fawehinmi Annual Lecture organised by the Nigerian Bar Association, Ikeja Branch, however, said that what the country is going through are in part, a consequence of decades of economic mismanagement
In the words of Sanusi; “They don’t even have people with credibility who can come and explain what they are doing. I’m not going to help.
“Let them come and explain to Nigerians why the policies that are being pursued are being pursued. Meanwhile, I’m watching a very nice movie with popcorn in my hands. I will not provide any form of assistance to President Bola Tinubu’s administration,” he said.
Sanusi further said at the event with the theme; “Bretton Woods and the African Economies: Can Nigeria Survive Another Structural Adjustment Programme?”, said he could easily explain the factors contributing to the country’s current economic challenges and how most of these issues were predictable and avoidable.
Sanusi, who was the chairman of the occasion, said that he has chosen not to offer any such insights or assistance to the Federal Government.
He further said; “I can give a few points that explain what we are going through and how most of it was totally predictable and avoidable, but I am not going to do that.
“I have chosen not to speak about the economy or the reforms or to even explain anything because if I explain, it would help the government and I don’t want to help this government.
“They’re my friends. If they don’t behave like friends, I don’t behave like a friend, so I watch them being stewed,” he said.
