Quality People Should Be In Authority – Nnamani
By Raphael Onyekachukwu, Enugu – Former President of the Senate, Senator Ken Nnamani has advised those in authority to make life more meaningful for the ordinary people so that posterity will judge them glowingly.
He said it has become imperative for renowned and quality individuals to take up political responsibility by seeking to occupy positions of authority to serve the people
Senator Nnamani, was speaking during the stakeholders’ meeting at the headquarters of Enugu South local government area of Enugu state during which two more development centres were created to make it four within the Council.
The former Senate President said the creation of more development centres was to make rural dwellers have a sense of belonging in the day-to-day administration of the Council.
He commended the Caretaker Committee chairman of Enugu South Local Council, Hon. Sunday Ugwu for excellent service he had so far rendered to the people, adding that Ugwu was able to achieve much within the short period because he allied himself with the noble objectives of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
According to him, “The governor wants development to reach everywhere in the 13 wards that make up the local government. The governor is interested in what is happening in our area. He has equally emphasized that all local government areas must pay their workers. That’s why we have to work as a team to the progress of the area for others to learn from us”.
He however, expressed dissatisfaction with the quality of buildings erected at the secretariat by previous administrations, and encouraged the chairman to continue to pay his workers because the era of subjecting local government workers to unnecessary hardship through non-payment of salaries has gone.
“Any person who finds himself in a position of authority should do well to change the lives of the people. The time of owing salaries has gone. There must be regular payment of workers’ salaries. Those who are aspiring to be chairmen of various councils should learn to be humble and how to render quality service because the position is for quality people”, he said.
Senator Nnamani also commended Hon. Onyinye Ugwu for her good representation in the State house of assembly.
