Ramadan: Kano State Govt Orders Closure Of Event, Entertainment Centres

The Kano State Government Censorship Board on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 directed all operators of entertainment and event centres across State, to immediately suspend operations.

The directive which was ahead of the Ramadan fasting period, affects centres, popularly referred to as gala houses, and Disc Jockey (DJ) operators.

The directive was contained in a statement by Public Relations Officer of the Board, Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, who stated that the closure will take effect from 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 18, and will remain in force until the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

Suleiman said the Board took the measure as part of efforts aimed at enabling residents to observe the Ramadan fast and carry out religious activities in a peaceful and undisturbed environment.

The statement further said that the date for the reopening of the affected venues, particularly around the Eid celebrations, would be communicated in due course.

The Board urged operators and other stakeholders to comply fully with the directive, stressing that the decision aligns with its statutory responsibility to regulate entertainment activities and ensure adherence to established guidelines across the state.

The board expressed hope for a peaceful and healthy observance of the fasting period for all residents.
