BY AHMED TUKUR, LAFIA – The Nasarawa State Government has warned that any property not properly registered with the Nasarawa State Urban Development Board (NUDB) risk being demolished.

Accordingly, the Board said owners of existing structures must also revalidate their documents to escape the boards hammer.

Managing Director of NUDB Engineer Muhammed Yahaya Wada, who issued the warning, explained that individual and corporate property owners can revalidate or register new properties through the Agency’s website anywhere in the world.

He said the Agency is focused on sanitising the building sector by ensuring that structures not properly erected give way or ultimately conform to existing building standards and procedures.

On the demolition exercise in Nyanya Gwandara that sparked off public protests, the NUDB boss said it was done in line with the Agency’s mandate to check gross abuse of building guidelines by property owners

“We served some of them notices more than a year ago, specifically on 6th of January 2020, but they did not only refuse to comply or even contact the board, but rather continued developing the affected property”, he said

Engineer Wada challenged those affected by the demolition in Nyanya Gwadara to come forward with all necessary documents and approvals as evidence to support their cases.

The Board’s Managing Director further said; “We are currently embarking on revalidation of property. So, even if you have an initial approval for development, you still need to revalidate it in order to be issued with a new certificate.

“NUDB is now online. You can register your document; revalidate your approvals from anywhere in the world; upload your drawings and process approvals without coming to the board physically.”

He said in the current dispensation, approvals are processed within two weeks, adding that the Agency has improved its service delivery to the public in terms of proper documentation and security.
