Following what it considered “unguarded actions” aimed at demolishing all democratic structures in the State, the House of Representatives Ad-Hoc Committee on Rivers State Oversight has extended an invitation to the Sole Administrator of the State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rted), for a critical interactive session.

Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Hon Akin Rotimi Jnr., who announced this on Wednesday, April 16, 2025 said the section is scheduled to hold on Thursday, April 17, 2025.

Rotimi Jnr said since the House Committee on Rivers State oversight has been inaugurated by the Speaker, Hon Tajudeen Abbas, it is proper to guide the Administrator on how to carry out his responsibilities without breaching the provisions of the Constitution.

Rotimi noted that the initial meeting allowed members of the Committee to review preliminary reports and assess the situation in Rivers State since Vice Admiral Ibas assumed the role of Sole Administrator.

The House spokesperson said the Committee is acting in line with Section 11(4) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empowers the National Assembly to conduct full legislative oversight over states under specific circumstances.

In the words of Rotimi; “Acting within its constitutional mandate, the committee resolved to invite Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd), Sole Administrator of Rivers State, to appear before it for a comprehensive interactive session”.

Rotimi said that the session is intended to provide lawmakers with a clearer understanding of the governance dynamics in Rivers State as well as ensure that the House fulfills its oversight obligations in line with public interest and constitutional provisions.

He said the interactive session with Ibas is scheduled to hold at 4:00 pm in Room 414 of the House of Representatives New Building in the National Assembly Complex, Abuja.
