RIFAN Applauds President Buhari On Boarder Closure
BY AMEH IDAJAGI, JALINGO – The National President of Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN), Alhaji Aminu Goroji, has said that the bold step by the federal government to close land borders is a requisite for meaningful and sustainable development in the country.
Goroji, who stated this while addressing a press conference in Jalingo, after a meeting with rice farmers and other stakeholders in Taraba state, said he was in the state to interact with stakeholders and identify key need areas of farmers in the state in a bid to addressing the needs preparatory for the dry season rice farming.
The RIFAN president said, the association is particularly interested in Taraba because it is the rice hub of the nation, with the potentials to supply all the rice needs of the entire West Africa if fully explored.
He said; “After interacting with the farmers and other stakeholders, we realised that their major problem is farm inputs and others. As part of preparations for this dry season’s rice farming, we have ordered for the supply of what is needed for the farmers to commence in earnest.
“Our target is to ensure that Nigerians begin to export our rice in the nearest future and the farmers have value for their labour.”
Goroji said that President Buhari took the right decision by closing land borders and urged Nigerians to support the policy, saying that it is for the good of all Nigerians and Nigeria.
