Rivers Governorship Election: We’re In Custody Of 17 LGA Results – INEC
BY AMOS DUNIA, ABUJA – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has said that it is in custody of results of 17 out of the 23 Local Government Areas of Rivers State for the March 9, Governorship Election.
This is just as the Electoral Commission indicted soldiers for disrupting Collation of election results as well as attempted to subvert the will of Rivers people and therefore said that the Commission will meet with heads of Federal Security agencies to ensure neutrality during the conclusion of the Rivers Governorship election.
These were contained in a statement by INEC National Commissioner in charge of Information and Voter Education, Mr. Festus Okoye, who further sad that the Commission will on March 20, 2019 release the detailed timeline for the completion of the Rivers State Governorship Election Process.
Okoye said; “Voting was concluded in majority of the polling units in the state, only for the Collation process to be disrupted by the soldiers.
“Declarations of results and return were made for 21 State Constituencies out of the 32 State Constituencies in the state.
“The Commission expresses displeasure with the invasion of collation Centres by the military and viewed the action as an attempt to subvert the will of Rivers people.”
Okoye said that INEC will also meet with key stakeholders in Rivers State to ensure the peaceful completion of the Rivers Governorship election.
