Rivers: Only A Sitting Gov Is Party Leader In The State – PDP Govs’ Forum Insists

BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed has charged the country’s main opposition party leadership to adhere strictly to the rule of law and laid down procedures and precedents established by the founding fathers of the PDP.

Governor Mohammed, who spoke when members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP that visited him in Bauchi, said the PDP Governors Forum strongly believes that the Party will continue to operate in line with the established practice that recognized serving Governors as leaders of the party in their respective states.

Speaking against the backdrop of the lingering leadership crisis in Rivers State between Governor Siminalaye Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, the Bauchi Chief Executive told journalists after engaging the PDP NWC members that the meeting agreed on the need to respect the rule of law and the principles that established the party to foster unity and deepen democracy at all levels.

The PDP Governors Forum Chairman said that it was along that line that the PDP NWC and Governors Forum collectively agreed for the rule of law, adding that the delegation gave their firm commitment and support for the position of the PDP Governors Forum on Rivers State.

In the words of Governor Mohammed; “In Rivers State, where we don’t have the established practice in which a sitting Governor in the State that is coming from the party, is the leader of the party and will therefore have the party structure for sustainability. It has to be corrected.

Mohammed also stressed the need for a strong working collaboration between the National Working Committee and the Forum towards establishing a formidable structure during the forthcoming PDP National Congress.

He expressed confidence that the PDP will produce the next President in the country come 2027.
