The Rivers State House of Assembly on Friday, March 14, 2025 adjourned sitting indefinitely.

The decision to adjourn legislative activities was arrived at the plenary session of the House led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule in Port Harcourt.

The adjournment of sitting came shortly after Governor Siminalayi Fubara sent a letter to the Speaker, notifying him of his plans to present the 2025 Appropriation Bill before the House next week Wednesday, March 19, 2025 for the consideration and approval of the House.

In the letter dated March 13, 2025, and addressed to the Speaker, Hon Amaewhule, Governor Fubara said that he intended to present the budget on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, or on any other day in March that the House might find suitable.

Fubara explained that his decision was in line with the Supreme Court ruling and in response to the lawmakers’ request for him to re-present the budget.

The Governor noted the unpleasant experience of trying to present the budget at the Assembly Quarters, where, despite being accompanied by his entourage, he was denied access to the complex.
