Ronaldo Vs Messi: CR7 Leads Saudi All-Star XI Against Leo’s PSG In Friendly
Five-time Ballon d’Or winner, Cristiano Ronaldo has been confirmed as the captain of a Saudi All-Star XI that will take on Paris Saint-Germain’s (PSG) in a friendly match on Thursday, January 19, 2023.
Ahead of the friendly match in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the Portuguese international appears to have been confirmed as the captain for the Saudi All-Star XI that will take to the field, comprising a mixture of players from Al-Nassr and Al-Hilal.
News of the encounter was confirmed in a tweet posted from the account of Turki Al-Sheikh, Saudi Arabia’s current chairman of General Authority for entertainment, where a video was attached showing the former Real Madrid and Manchester United star receiving the armband and his shirt for Thursday’s friendly.
The match is the first time Messi and Ronaldo will be facing each other since the 37-year-old left European football for the Middle East, and for the first time since December 2020, when Ronaldo was on the winning side as Juventus triumphed over Barcelona 3-0 in their Champions League clash.
Ronaldo has penned a deal until 2025, meaning Thursday’s friendly could well be the last time he and Messi are pitted against one another – that is if Al-Hilal cannot tempt Messi, the Qatar 2022 World Cup, and seven-time Ballon d’Or winner to relocate to Saudi Arabia.
