Rough Times, Boos For Gov Buni At APC Rally
- Pelted with objects by unruly Sen Lawan’s supporters
BY SEGUN ADEBAYO – Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State ran into stormy waters at the weekend as angry supporters of Senate President Ahmad Lawan disrupted an event organised to celebrate the Supreme Court’s ruling confirming him as the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Yobe North Senatorial district in the forthcoming National Assembly poll.
Trouble began for the governor when the irate supporters pelted him with different objects during the event that also served as the APC’s zonal campaign rally for the Yobe North district.
As Governor Buni rose to deliver his speech, shortly after the Senate President had addressed the crowd, the objects-throwing Party’s supporters became unruly and began chanting anti-government slogans to disrupt the rally.
The agitated supporters, who had loudly cheered Senator Lawan’s speech, suddenly broke into slogans conveying rejection for the Yobe State Chief Executive as they chanted; ‘bwamayi, bwamayi, bwamaso”, translated; “We don’t want you”; “We no do again”; “Taafi-chang” meaning “Go away”;
Not ready to hold back their anger, the supporters sustained their taunting of the governor and his entourage with different objects being hauled at them on the podium.
However, sensing a likely break down of law and order, security operatives attached to the governor quickly whisked him away from campaign rally venue to safety bringing the event to an abrupt end.
According to party insiders claims, the Senate President’s supporters attack on Governor Buni was instigated by insinuations of his perceived support for Bashir Machina who had emerged the APC flag bearer until the candidacy was unturned by the Supreme Court in favour of Senator Lawan.
