Russian Warship, Moskva Sinks – Defence Ministry Admits
The Russian Ministry of Defence on Thursday admitted that its Moskva missile cruiser has sunk in the Black Sea off southern Ukraine.
However, from available information, it is still unclear whether the ship was hit by Ukrainian weaponry or not.
The Ministry put out a statement to say the ship is believed to have experienced significant damage and was thought to be heading to Sevastopol in Crimea before it finally succumbed to the firepower of the Ukrainian army.
Earlier, Russia had claimed that the Ship only experienced damage as a result of an ammunition fire on board but the crew were safely evacuated.
In their heated exchanges, Ukraine claimed the ship had sunk, while Russia vehemently denied it. Amid the confusion came reports that Russia was towing its ships further out to sea, perhaps to take them out of Ukrainian missile range.
The Moskva was apparently under tow when it sank. Russia only has three of this flagship class of warship, which have crews of almost 500 sailors. – The Guardian report
