BY SEGUN ADEBAYO – Shoving aside their political differences and contestation, the embattled Local Government Council Chairmen in Oyo State on Tuesday joined the growing list of well-wishers praying for the quick recovery of Governor Seyi Makinde from the coronavirus pandemic infection.

Acting on the platform of Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Oyo State chapter, the chairmen, who are currently locked in legal battle with the State government over what they termed their illegal removal from office, said all well-meaning individuals and groups must pull together in prayers for God’s healing power to take away the virus afflicting the governor

According to statement signed by the group’s Chairman, Prince Ayodeni Abass-Aleshinloye, instead of trading blames concerning the cause(s) or otherwise of Governor Makinde’s health challenge, the people should concentrate more on ways of combating Coronavirus as a common enemy and grave danger to humanity and the global economy.

In their statement titled: “Get well quick, Your Excellency, Engineer Seyi Makinde”, the ‘Sacked’ Chairmen said the important lesson now is being one’s brother’s keeper in togetherness with the common goal of seeing a COVID-19 free Oyo State, Nigeria and the entire world.

The statement read in parts: “ALGON Oyo State prays for the quick recovery of Governor Seyi Makinde as he undergoes treatment for COVID-19 in an isolation centre.

“Instead of trading blames as to the cause(s) or avenue(s) of the infection afflicting the governor, we should concentrate more on how to combat Coronavirus, our common enemy that has now become a real danger to humanity and its health and economic prosperity globally.

“Coronavirus disease knows no frontier, no class, no political party, religion or ethnic origin, so we must unite for its containment and cure because no one is safe inasmuch as the dangerous virus is still in anyone’s cell.”

“A lesson to learn now is to be our brother’s keeper in togetherness and common objective, which is to see a COVID-19 free Oyo State, Nigeria and the entire world”, the embattled Council chiefs said.

The governor had on Monday joined the growing list of confirmed cases that have tested positive for the Coronavirus and is now receiving treatment at one of the state-owned isolation centres in Ibadan, the State capital.
