Secondus Mortgages PDP’s Soul For Crumbs – Ex-Nasarawa Speaker
BY AHMED TUKUR, LAFIA – A Former Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo, has accused the Prince Uche Secondus-led National Working Committee (NWC) of mortgaging the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for their selfish pecuniary interest.
Onawo, a former House of Representatives member representing Doma-Keana-Awe federal constituency, said PDP’s electoral integrity is been seriously tainted and in disrepute due to the high level of injustice and impunity within the party.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Forefront, Onawo said given its lack of vision and insincerity of purpose, the present crop of PDP leadership at the national level has no viable plans for the 2023 general elections.
He claimed that about 23 state chapters of the party nationwide are currently facing series of crisis due to obvious discriminatory practices and prejudices exhibited by the Secondus-led team.
The former lawmaker further alleged that the party has unfortunately been driven along religious and ethnic lines, thereby causing debilitating problems and pushing the country’s main opposition party several years backward.
Onawo, who was the party’s Deputy governorship candidate in the 2019 general elections, said it was just a miracle that the party won Edo State because the National leadership has since mortgaged the party for selfish and ulterior motives.
He particularly blamed PDP’s North Central Vice Chairman, Theophilus Dakas for the current turmoil brewing in most states’ chapters within the zone
According to him; “We boycotted the last week Nasarawa state rescheduled congress of the party because the National leadership seems to be conniving with some individuals to perpetuate injustice.
‘We went to court to seek redress concerning issues in some local governments like Awe, Lafia, Keffi and part of Keana, yet the Abba Moro-led committee went ahead to conduct the so-called congresses without obeying existing court order that the outstanding congresses must first be concluded.”
The PDP chieftain also said; “We have written several petitions to national headquarters, went their physically yet the party is still adamant to complains so we
won’t be part of those that will go against the constitution of the party.
“We will meet and take a decision very soon. But for now, we are still loyal members of the party”.
