- As Press Corps honour the 10th Senate emerging voices
For his commitment to people-oriented legislative advocacy and unwavering passion for good governance, Senator Ekong Sampson, representing Akwa Ibom South in the National Assembly (NASS), has been honoured with the Legislative Excellence Award by the Senate Press Corps.
According to the award narration, Senator Sampson’s impactful outing in the Senate, both on and off the Floor, has not gone unnoticed.
The lawmaker, who holds the unique traditional title of Onomkpoinam Mkpat Enin, because of his good work in the local government area, was honoured by the Press Corps as one of ‘the emerging voices of the 10th Senate’.
The Award was conferred on Senator Sampson during the Corps 2024 Awards, held at Nicon Luxury Hotel, Abuja. He was represented at the ceremony by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Samuel Udoma.
Chairman of the Senate Press Corps, James Itodo, who presented the award, said having monitored the activities of Senator Sampson in the 10th Senate, he is recognised and appreciated as a focused representative of his constituents.
He described him as a lawmaker, “who has leveraged on his legal expertise and legislative acumen to address critical issues such as education, human rights and sustainable development”.
Speaking on the Award conferment, Senator Sampson thanked the Corps for the recognition, noting that it was a call for him to do even more in legislative interventions.
He further pledged to always pursue greater effective representation for his people in Akwa Ibom South Senatorial district.
Other winners at the well-attended ceremony were the Senate Chief Whip, Senator Tahir Mungono; Senate Committee Chairman on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Yemi Adaramodu; and a former National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), currently representing Anambra Central in the National Assembly (NASS), Senator Victor Umeh.
Also, the “Strategic Legislative Synergy Awards” were presented to the Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani; Minister of State for Agriculture, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi; and Senator Bashir Lado, Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Senate Matters.
The Senate Press Corps comprises correspondents of media houses covering daily activities of the upper Legislative Chamber.
