Senator Godiya Akwashiki, representing Nasarawa North senatorial District in the National Assembly, has died at the age of 52.

A close family source, who confirmed the death of the senator on Thursday, said he died in an Indian hospital on Wednesday, December 31, 2025 after a protracted illness.

The source said the death of Senator Akwashiki was a big blow and had left a big void, saying that the commitment to development of the senatorial zone and empowerment programmes of the late legislator deserved commendation.

According to the source; “Since in the history of Nasarawa North, Senator Akwashiki was the best senator the senatorial district has ever produced due to his purposeful leadership.

“His projects are in every nook and cranny of the district as he was the only Senator that re-contested and won for second term in the zone,” the source said.

Born on August 3, 1973, in Angba Iggah, Nassarawa Eggon, Nasarawa State, Akwashiki had previously served as the Majority Leader and Deputy Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly and was elected into the Senate in 2019.
