Former Governor of Kano State, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, on Monday, March 30, 2026, officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Kwankwaso, who was the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), and leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement received his ADC membership card at Gidan Kwankwasiyya, Miller Road, Bompai, Kano.
The event attracted prominent political figures that included Senator David Mark, Mr Peter Obi, John Odigie-Oyegun, Aminu Tambuwal, Rotimi Amaechi, and Dino Melaye, amongst several others.
Key stakeholders and leaders of the ADC had earlier arrived at the residence of Senator Kwankwaso ahead of his official defection to his new party.
Kwankwaso on Sunday, March 29, 2026, announced his resignation from the NNPP, saying that his decision followed recent changes in the country’s political direction, which he believes now require him to move on a different path.
Kwankwaso expressed appreciation to the NNPP for the chance to serve as the party’s national leader and also represent it in the 2023 presidential election.
Kwankwaso also directed his supporters and political followers to resign from the NNPP and other parties and register with the ADC, just as he urged Nigerians to take the 2027 elections seriously.
