Shock As Senator Gbenga Aluko 58, Slumps, Dies in Abuja

A former governorship candidate in Ekiti State on the platform of the Labour Party (LP), Senator Gbenga Aluko, aged 58 slumped and later died in a hospital on Saturday.

The death of Senator Aluko, son of the renowned Late professor of Economics, Sam Aluko left members of his family, relations and friends in bewildered shock

The late Ekiti born politician, according to family sources was not known to have been sick before his sudden collapse in the office before he was rushed to the hospital where he gave up the ghost.

It was however being speculated in certain quarters that he must have died as a result of a possible heart attack.

The Late Senator Aluko was elected into the Nigerian Senate in 1999 to represent Ekiti South Senatorial zone on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during which time, he was the only PDP Senator in the Senate from the Southwest geopolitical zone.

While in the Senate, he was know for his community development programmes that included the provision of boreholes to communities to tackle the problem of lack of potable water among others.

Senator Aluko, did not return to the Senate for a second term as he got a plum job with Chevron Nigeria Limited as the Government Relations Manager in Abuja leveraging his wide contacts in government.

However, Senator Aluko revived his political structure in 2018 and showed interest in the Governorship seat of his Ekiti State on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Senator Gbenga Aluko popularly known as ‘SGA’ had two children namely Eniola and Sone, who are both international footballers.
