Sit-at-Home Order: Police After Killers Of Alleged ESN Enforcer

BY ONYEKACHUKWU IBEZIM – The Imo State Police Command has declared a manhunt for killers of an alleged leader of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) who was enforcing the sit-at-home order by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in the State on Monday, September 19, 2021.

It was a black Monday and journey of no return for the unfortunate ESN member, Obinwanne Iwu, as an angry mob snuffed life out of him on that fateful day.

In an unrestrained expression of their boiling anger, the mob descended on the 34-years-old Iwu, a native of Ahiara in Umuagbavo Oru Ahiara in Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area and sadly he is not alive to tell the story of his purported ‘enforcement duty’.

But the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Rabiu Hussaini, has directed that all suspects involved in the mob incident must be identified and handed over to the Police for proper investigation and possible prosecution.

A press statement by the State Police Command spokesperson, CSP Mike Abattam, on behalf of the Commissioner, said residents of Umuagbavo Oru Ahiara in Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo had on the said date ignored IPOB’s so-called ‘sit-at-home’ order and went about their lawful businesses.

The statement, which explained the shocking development, said; “Suddenly, one Obinwanne Iwu, 34 years, a native of Ahiara in the same local government area; who is an escapee of Imo Correctional Centre, Owerri, went to the market with his gang; trying to enforce a sit-at-home order of the proscribed IPOB/ESN terror group.

“They were shouting at the top of their voices that `today is Monday and everybody must obey the sit at home order,’’ the statement said.

The Police spokesman said the group’s harassment and intimidation did not go down well with the people and in their anger, the mob took Iwu hostage and tied his hands behind his back while other gang members fled the area.

In the process, the cornered ESN member was mercilessly beaten by the mob with the police patrol team arriving the scene too late to meet his lifeless body.

“Efforts made by the police patrol team to arrest the perpetrators proved abortive as they all fled the scene on sighting the officers’’, Abattam said in the statement.
