BY VICTOR BUORO ADEBAYO, ABUJA – The Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU) on Saturday said that a total of 23 armless, harmless Southern Kaduna natives were killed by Fulani in the past 72 hours.

SOKAPU said that the present figure is not inclusive of the over 40 murdered victims by Fulani militia in Kaura and Zangon Kataf less than a week earlier.

It pointedly said that its region is presently under a genocidal campaign by Fulani militia, who have become sacred cows with President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State.

SOKAPU said that both President Buhari and Governor El-Rufai are Fulani that are deliberately twisting the truth and trying hard to change the narrative that the Fulani are on a “reprisals” attacks.

It said that the unfortunate development and several others have created a humanitarian crisis in Chikun, Zangon Kataf, Kaura and Kajuru Local Government Area as thousands of IDPs can barely survive the hunger, sickness and various trauma.

The umbrella organisation for the people of Southern Kaduna accordingly called on the Federal and Kaduna state governments to as a matter of urgency, national interest and good conscience do the needful, right the wrongs and stop the propaganda against the people of the region.

SOKAPU noted that even though Zikpak where the Fulani militia attacked is just about two kilometers from the heart of Kafanchan where there are presence of Army personnel, the violent group had a field day.

These were contained in a statement by the National Public Relations Officer of SOKAPU, Mr Luka Binniyat in which he also called on both the federal and Kaduna State government to ameliorate the suffering of the people and return lives to normalcy.

SOKAPU also called on the International Community and all men and women of conscience to also intervene in the suffering of the people who are under a pogrom that the state seems to be doing very little to stop.

The statement further said; “This morning, around 6;00am, the grieving Fanstwam natives of Zipkak, a semi-urban town in Fanstwam Chiefdom, Jemaa LGA in Southern Kaduna, were once again forced to flee for dear lives after armed Fulani militia sprang from nearby bushes and started shooting.

“Fortunately, the youths of the community resisted the invaders and they fled back without any harm to the distraught natives who were grieving the killing of 10 members of the town slained the previous evening.

“The militia had crept into the town around on 7pm, yesterday, Friday, 24th July, 2020 and rained bullets on the peaceful community.

“Even though Zikpak where the Fulani militia attacked is just about two kilometers from the heart of Kafanchan where there are presence of some Army personnel, the violent group had a field day.

“After looting and vandalising the town, they burnt part of it and gruesomely murdered the following; Joel Cephas – 5 years, Kingsley Raphael – 28 years, Katung Kantiock – 60, Luka Garba – 75, Victor Ishaya – 22years and Madam Dakaci – 52 years.

The list of massacred innocent people also include; Kuyet Yayock – 25 years, Cecelia Audu – 65 years, Matina Dauda – 70 years and Yanasan Dauda -70 years.

In the same vein, SOKAPU said that the following people were fatally wounded. They include – Mrs Jonathan Ishaya; Marthins Agang; Kassan Duniya; Jenifer Nicodemus and five years old Joel Cephas.

SOKAPU also noted that Governor of Kaduna state immediately imposed a 24 hour curfew over the entire Jemmaa Local Government Area, stressing however that it was under the curfew that the Fulani militia returned to wreck more havoc until the valiant youths of the community, with very crude weapons, repelled the Fulani militia.

According to SOKAPU; “Also, as it rained at about 8:00pm on Thursday, July 23, 2020 at Agwala Magayaki of Doka Avong, Kajuru Local Government Area in Southern Kaduna, armed Fulani militia took advantage of the darkness and torrential rain and attacked the village for the second time in a month, leaving six persons dead and two fatally wounded.

It further said that the list of those killed in Kajuru include John Mallam – 80years, Albarka Mallam – 85years, Jumare Sule – 76 years, Hannatu Garba – 55years, Thaddeus Albarka – 32 years, Luvinus Danmori – 52 years and Daniel Mukadas – 70 years while those that were fatally injured are Danmori Sule and Alheri Mandela”.

SOKAPU also noted that on June 20, 2020, the same village was invaded by the Fulani militia, some of whom are known by the villagers in which seven persons were killed.

According to SOKAPU; “On the 22nd, July 2020, as it rained on Kizachi-Chawai, a far removed village bounded by hills, in Chawai chiefdom, Kauru LGA in Southern Kaduna, Fulani militia broke into homes, and attacked villagers with knives, daggers and machetes and killed five persons.

The following people were killed that include; Kefas Monday – 17years, Lydia Monday -14yearsrs, Jummai – 9years, Giwa Thomas -14years and Living Yohanna – 27years while Monday Ibrahim – 45years and Alheri Dauda -13 years old were seriously injured”.

SOKAPU described as totally false that the mass massacre of the people of Southern Kaduna is an outcome of clashes between criminal gangs as portrayed by President Muhammadu Buhari, through his Spokesman, Shehu Garba, stressing that the victims, who mostly kids, women and the aged, are not members of criminal gangs.

It noted that the so-called formidable security arrangement the presidency claimed to be in place in Southern Kaduna is it at best, a ruse and a mirage, going by increasing casualties and the impunity of the Fulani armed men.
