Stakeholders Want Urgent Action Plan On Nutrition
BY GLORIA USMAN, ABUJA – Stakeholders at a one Day Nutrition meeting have called for the urgent need for the implementation of the National Multi-Sectoral Strategic Plan of Action for Nutrition.
The stakeholders also stressed the need to domesticate and implement the National Multi-Sectoral Strategic Plan of Action for Nutrition (NMSPAN), organised by Civil Society- Scaling-Up Nutrition In Nigeria (CS-SUNN).
Speaking at the event, the Executive Secretary, CS-SUNN, Mrs Beatrice Eluaka, said all Nigerians must work towards reducing the rate of malnutrition in the Federal Capital Territory and other parts of the country.
According to her; “Nutrition covers a whole lot of multi sectorial unit, and should not be neglected. No sector has the answer to the Nutrition challenge facing the country.
“Education will shed the light on the necessary food combination, which will bring about food security. The provision of potable water will prevent diarrhea and water borne diseases.”
She noted that adequate funding will go a long way in improving Nutrition in the country just as another speaker, Mrs Aji Robinson said that it is only a multi-sectorial approach that is required to achieve the objectives outlined in the National Policy on Food and Nutrition.
Other stakeholders noted that the recommended approach will engender transparency and accountability, which would in turn attract more donor support, as government commitment has become visible to the donor community.
