SWAN Lauds Gov Sule For Sacking Nasarawa Utd’s Board
BY AHMED TUKUR, LAFIA – The Nasarawa State chapter of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has commended Governor Abdullahi A. Sule’s administration for taking bold steps towards engendering sports development in the state.
The Association expressed confidence that the bold steps so far taken by Governor Sule are reassuring and indicative of better days ahead.
A statement by the State SWAN chairman, Cheke Emmanuel urged the Governor to appoint persons of integrity, with sports background, and passion for sports into the new board when appointed.
The association lauded government’s recent dissolution of the Barrister Isaac Danladi-led board of Nasarawa United FC, noting that the action has now paved the way for appointment of professionals to constitute fresh board for the team.
According to SWAN, it is important for the State government to also re-organise Nasarawa Amazons FC and recruit new players for the two government-owned football clubs in the state.
He said such a move will attract and accommodate professional players capable of adding value to both clubs in the campaigns this season.
The statement further charged the government to appoint as Commissioner for Youth and Sports a youth who will pay attention and focus on youth development activities and grassroots sports, away from the current state of placing too much emphasis on football.
The Sports Writers therefore, expressed their readiness to collaborate with the current state administration to drive sports growth and development to the Next level in the State
