T-Tennis Tourney: NUJ FCT Council, Chinese Journalists Clash Saturday

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council says six Chinese journalists have been penciled down to engage their Nigerian counterparts in the second edition of the NUJ-Chinese Journalists’ Table Tennis Tournament.

According to the Council Secretariat, the Chinese sextet are slated to compete for available trophies and cash prizes at stake in the annual competition.

A statement by the Secretary of NUJ FCT Council, Rafat Salami said determined to retain the coveted trophies they won last year, journalists from various Chapels have already begun training to hone their skills and chances of besting their Chinese counterparts

Rafat’s statement said the tennis tournament will hold on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at the Chinese Cultural Centre in Wuse, Abuja at 7am.

She stated that ahead of this year’s competition, the FCT Council has mounted two tennis tables’ boards at its Secretariat in Utako to enable members to sharpen their skills.

Rafat also said the secretariat is being serviced with light to enhance members’ preparation for the event, adding that all chapels are advised to forward names of their representatives to the Secretariat for proper documentation.

Furthermore, she urged all chapel leaders to fully mobilise their members to support players during the one-day competition.

The tournament presents 2017 winners, the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture chapel an opportunity to defend their title. Records showed that NTA chapel, which emerged 1st runners-up and the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Chapel as 2nd runners-up are also set to improve their fortunes in this year’s event.

For now, all roads lead to the Chinese Cultural Centre, Wuse Abuja on Saturday.
