BY OUR CORRESPONDENT – Amid extensive consultations and intense political maneuvering, the former Sokoto State Governor and incumbent Senator, representing Sokoto South, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has formally withdrawn from the race to return to the National Assembly (NASS) on the African Democratic Congress (ADC) platform

Similarly, Ibrahim Lamido, the senator representing Sokoto East, also withdrew from the race following a reconciliation agreement reached by stakeholders of the party in a significant shift ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Party insiders said the arrangement involves Senator Tambuwal stepping down in favour of one of the ADC aspirants, Faruk Malami Yabo, a former Commissioner in Sokoto state.

However, the coalition party is yet to announce who will fly its flag for the Sokoto East senatorial district following Lamido’s withdrawal from the contest.

Meanwhile, speculations are rife that the member representing Silame-Binji Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Mani Mainshinku, is being positioned by ADC stakeholders to clinch the ticket for Sokoto Central Senatorial District in the upcoming general elections.

Though no official reason has been given for the two senators’ withdrawal from the race, party insiders said with a vision for generational transition, the party is looking forward to restructuring its platform to champion younger voices and ensure their participation in electoral contests within Kebbi state and nationwide.

The ADC Spokesperson in the state, Alhaji Lamir Ameen, who spoke on the latest development, confirmed the lawmakers’ withdrawal from the race, saying the party is focused on creating opportunities for younger politicians to seek elective positions and represent their respective constituencies and senatorial districts at both the State and National Assembly.

Ameen said the ADC is prioritizing youth representation by selecting young candidates for the majority of its House of Representatives seats, a strategic move designed to foster political inclusiveness and actively boost the participation of young people in the nation’s governance and political space.

Emphasizing the need for unity within the party, he urged all ADC members to bridge internal divides and harmonize their strategies, ensuring a collective, focused approach toward winning the next election.
