BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – Quick-thinking security guards and their alertness have foiled a midnight sabotage attempt at the Bauchi transmission sub-station in the Bauchi State capital.
Reports said the swift reflexes and vigilance of on-duty security personnel successfully prevented a critical infrastructure heist that threatened to plunge Bauchi and its surrounding communities into an extended blackout and long time darkness.
It was gathered that this breakthrough occurred when security operatives and vigilant personnel at the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) effectively thwarted a high-stakes robbery at the 330/132kV transmission substation in Bauchi.
An official statement by the TCN Management indicated that the tense incident unfolded on Friday night, July 24, 2026, when the criminal gang attempted to breach the critical infrastructure at approximately 9:34 pm, threatening to plunge the region into darkness before their efforts were decisively foiled
According to TCN General Manager (GM), Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, who delivered the cheering news, security personnel at the sub-station intercepted suspected vandals attempting to remove critical tower members with the criminals fleeing the scene on sighting the guards.
The incident reports by Mbah further said, “An inspection of the area led to the recovery of 12 transmission tower angle irons, one heavy-duty metal measuring scale, and a white pickup truck believed to have been used for the operation.”
He disclosed that the recovered items and the vehicle have been handed over to the Railway Division Police Station, Bauchi, for further investigation.
Assuring that, “No equipment was carted away and no injuries were recorded during the incident”, the TCN’s statement commended the prompt response of its security team, whose vigilance prevented the equipment theft or damage to critical transmission infrastructure.
Furthermore, the Electricity company reiterated the need for host communities to report suspicious activities around power installations to security agencies or the nearest TCN office for prompt action.
