Dr. Ganiyat Popoola, a registrar in the Department of Ophthalmology at the National Eye Centre, Kaduna, who was kidnapped over ten months ago, has been finally let off the hook by her captors.

Dr. Popoola was kidnapped on December 27, 2023, along with her husband, a Nigerian Air Force officer, Squadron Leader Nurudeen Popoola, and her nephew, Folaranmi Abdul-Mugniy.

However, her husband, Squadron Leader Popoola was released in March and negotiations continued for her and her nephew’s release.

The situation became tense which forced members of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) to hold multiple protests during which they called on the Federal Government to secure her release.

NARD President, Dr Tope Osundara, confirmed her release on Wednesday, October 30, 2024.

However, the security agencies and the government are yet to confirm her release story.
