Troops of the Nigerian Army that were on their way to rescue female students that were abducted from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, Kebbi State were ambushed by terrorists and injured several soldiers.
The ambush and attack, it was gathered occurred less than 24 hours after the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, ordered troops of Operation Fasan Yamma to go “all out” against the bandits responsible for abduction of the female students.
General Shaibu had ordered; “You must continue day and night fighting. We must find these children”.
The COAS also directed commanders to leverage intelligence for intelligence-based operations, stressing that they receive information on something, they must act decisively and professionally and decisively, saying; “This is not just about our image; it is about doing our job properly”.
Accordingly, the Army boss ordered the troops to maintain 24-hour operations until all the abducted students are safely rescued and reunited with their families.
Following the directive, the troops were mobilized for the rescue mission but were ambushed by terrorists as video footage released showed that several of the soldiers were injured as well as lying helplessly without immediate medical attention.
One of the operational vehicles of the troops was also riddled with bullet holes during the attack.
