Terrorists that attacked the Abuja-Kaduna bound train during which they abducted some of the passengers on Wednesday released four children and their parents that were part of their victims.
Also released along with the kids and their parents, was a 60 year old woman by name Hajiya Aisha Hassan, who it was gathered was released as a result of life threatening health challenges that deteriorated recently.
The names of the six family members released by the terrorists include; the father of the children, Abubakar Idris Garba, his wife, Maryama Abubakar Bobbo, their 10years old eldest son, Ibrahim Abubakar Garba, seven years old Fatima Abubakar Garba, five years old Imran Abubakar Garba, and youngest Zainab Abubakar Garba who is one and half years old.
Abubakar, who is a staff of the National Assembly Service Commission, is the son of retired Major-General Idris Garba, who former Military Administrator of Kano and Benue States during the administration of former Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida.
A statement issued by Tukur Mamur, Kaduna-based Desert Herald newspaper publisher, who is also the media consultant to Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, said the release of the this set of victims was made possible following the intervention of Sheik Ahmad Gumi.
Mamu said that Sheikh Gumi was disturbed by the gory videos images he saw of the four teenage children belonging to the same family in the last video released by the terrorists that attacked the Abuja-Kaduna train in March this year.
According to Mamu; “Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Gumi for the first since the abduction of the innocent passengers of that train over four months ago has reached out to the abductors through his Media Consultant. He sent Allah’s messages to them and consistently pleaded with them to consider the release of the poor children and their innocent parents”.
Mamu further said that it was gathered that the health condition of two of the teenage children deteriorated since the flogging incident that affected their helpless father.
In the words of Mamu; “A total of additional seven hostages were therefore released on Wednesday. The husband of the four kids is a staff of the National Assembly Commission. There was no intervention from the Commission or NASS on his behalf since the travails begun.
“This is to confirm to the world that due to Sheikh Gumi’s efforts and with the support of a serving Senator from the North (a God fearing personality that doesn’t have any relationship with the hostages) who chose to remain anonymous that all the family of six have regained their freedom on Wednesday morning.
Mamu did not however state if ransom was paid before the release of the victims.
However, sources close to the family of the released victims said that N200 million was paid to secure their release.
