That Buhari Speech, We Need Deliverance – Afegbua

This president is a kill joy. Surely so. When I heard he was going to address Nigerians, I was looking forward to a speech with all the necessary sound bites to reassure already befuddled nation, but alas, it was another empty rhetoric loaded with half-truths, superfluous contradictions, and unanimated footnotes. Who are the president’s speech writers if I may ask?

That speech was surely talking about another country, not this country that has been ran aground by this cabal induced presidency. The so-called achievements presented to justify a re-election are as uninspiring as the president that read the speech. A presidential speech on the eve of election should show a roadmap for national cohesion and not chest-thumping rhetoric to confuse the masses who have been rendered prostrate by a government that has crippled the economy and sent millions to the unemployment prison. A government that has become the sole distributor of poverty, hunger and deprivations cannot ignite any hope in our shared commitment to building an egalitarian society. A government that doesn’t respect law and order, ignore court verdicts and offers hopelessness cannot be the needed tonic to propel national development.

This government is at the departure lounge, and Nigerians would do President Buhari proud if they conveniently sent him back to Daura on Saturday, 16th February, through the ballot box. Let’s have a date with history. Let’s rescue our nation. Let’s inspire hope. Let’s stop nepotism. Let’s stop cronyism. Let’s stop hypocrisy. Let’s vote right. Goodbye PMB.
