There Is No Going Back On Okowa – Atiku
Amid growing discontent and pressure to substitute Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate for the 2023 general elections, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, says there is no backing down on the decision to go with Delta State Chief Executive.
Clearly reiterating his resolve to stick with Okowa no matter the odds, Atiku, in a tweet on his verified Twitter handle @Atiku, on Saturday said: “Getting this country back on track will require all hands on deck.
“And I am excited to go on this journey with my vice-presidential candidate, H.E Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa @AIOkowa. Let’s come together as ONE towards a brighter future for all and for one Nigeria.”
Further giving his decision momentum, the former Vice President attached a video of Okowa addressing Nigerians. In the video, Okowa is heard describing himself as an incurable optimist in democracy and the promise it holds for the country.
The Delta Governor stated that the task of rescuing Nigeria from its current socio-economic and security challenges must begin with the election of the right candidate as President, who will unite the country towards ending the insecurity and economic downturn “we’ve found ourselves”.
“For me, being on the ticket with Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, is an opportunity to play a role in resetting the trajectory of Nigeria back to the path of growth, peace, and prosperity”, the Delta Governor said
Urging PDP members and all Nigerians to support him and Atiku Abubakar to deliver on their promise of a better Nigeria, Senator Okowa pledged to remain accessible to all those willing to undertake the journey with him.
Insiders hinted at the weekend some of the opposition party’s 13 governors and loyalists are reaching out to the candidate to douse tension on the choice of the Vice Presidential candidate.
Sources said while some stakeholders are seeking an outright replacement, others are canvassing more consolatory approach that will have Atiku engaging Governor Nyesom Wike personally on the best way forward.
