There Was No Attack On Election Witnesses On Zamfara Highway – Police
The Zamfara State Police Command has debunked claims by the Legal team of the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar and the Party at the Tribunal on Friday.
The PDP and Atiku Legal team had told the Tribunal on Friday that their witnesses schedule to testify in the Afternoon of same day, were attacked by unknown gunmen on the way to Abuja from Zamfara state.
The police was reacting to reports in which some PDP and Atiku witnesses, who were traveling to Abuja from Zamfara were alleged to have been attacked by bandits, a situation that forced them to scampered into the bush.
But a statement by the Commissioner of Police, Zamfara state command, said there was no such attack by bandits either on villages or on any person or group of persons traveling on any highway in the state.
The statement which was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Mohammed Shehu said that since the inception of the ongoing peace and dialogue initiative in the state, attacks, kidnapping and other heinous crime in the state have been reduced drastically by about 98 percent.
Shehu further said; “A situation that restored peace and stability in the state. The rescue of over 100 persons who were kidnapped and held in captivity for months by the Commissioner of police CP Usman Nagogo, is another indication that the ongoing peace process of the command is working assiduously.
“Therefore, the command wishes to refute the entire story as misleading and a calculated attempt to undermine the current effort of both the state government and the police to bring lasting peace for social and economic development in the state.”
