President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday, May 22, 2025, sent an Appropriation Bill of N1.481 trillion of Rivers State to the two chambers of the National Assembly for consideration and passage.
President Tinubu said that the presentation of the budget to the National Assembly became necessary following the nullification of the 2025 Rivers State budget by the Supreme Court and the fact that the State is under emergency rule.
He said that with the emergency rule, the Rivers State House of Assembly is not in session.
The President explained that in accordance with the provisions of the 1999 constitution (as amended), the National Assembly is expected to take over the legislative functions of the State Assembly.
The President said that out of the N1,481 trillion, the sum of N324 billion will be expended on infrastructure, N166 billion for health, N75.6 billion for education and N31.4 for Agriculture, adding that by the provision of the budget, the agriculture sector is expected to generate about 6000 jobs.
The President urged the lawmakers to urgently pass for the budget for the good of the State.
