Tinubu Will Sack Non-Performing Ministers – Ajuri Ngelale

BY EDMOND ODOK – Unlike the immediate past President Muhammadu Buhari’s era where members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) clearly enjoyed assured tenure in office, President Bola Tinubu will readily wield the big stick on any Minister found to be incompetent in discharging assigned responsibilities.

According to Presidential spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, the President is ever ready not ready to tolerate incompetence, and will not hesitate to sack any member of his cabinet that is found wanting.

Speaking on the Channels Television programme, Sunrise Daily, on Monday, Ngelale said failure by any Minister to achieve set goals may earn anyone sack.

He said; “President Bola Tinubu is someone who has the results. He says ‘These are your benchmarks, I know what I want you to achieve, I’m not expecting you to just come up with some plan when you get there. I’m telling you the time frame within which I expect you to achieve.

“Every Minister coming in absolutely knows what they have to achieve within the time frame that has been given to them by the President. The question now is about enforcement and the President has shown, as he did during his time in Lagos State as governor, that he is not someone that is afraid to fire anybody.”

“He is not somebody that is afraid to levy quick sanctions to ensure that they get the results that he wants ’cause, ultimately, if this administration fails, they will not say a minister failed or a set of ministers failed. They will say President Bola Tinubu failed, and he will not accept failure.”

Maintaining that every member of the Cabinet is expected to be on their toes, the Presidential Media Aide further said; “And if you don’t, there are consequences. He’s ready to fire a minister at the drop of a dime if he is not getting what he wants. Absolutely.”

During his eight-year tenure, former President Buhari was blamed by critics for allowing many of the Ministers to continue in office in spite of mounting complaints of incompetence and non-performance in the public space.

Disappointingly, aside from some ministers spending eight years in office with him, the President also went against the tradition of dissolving cabinets by instructing all the then-serving Ministers to stay put until the terminal date of his administration.
